WORKSHOPS TERM 4, 2011

Pit Firing Workshop: 12-13th November 2011
Cost $150.00 Discount* $120.00
*If you are currently enrolled in any ClayMotion classes you can participate in workshops at a discounted rate
This workshop will be conducted over two days, is for all skill levels and will introduce participants to all aspects of pit firing. The workshop will finish with a tour of the environmental installation Dawn constructed as part of her doctorial thesis, which can be viewed here. Participants are invited to bring a picnic lunch to share. Accommodation is available close to the workshop site.
Participants are to bring 1-2 pots that have been burnished and bisque fired to between 780-820°. This will ensure the sheen is maintained on the pot after pit firing. Wide rimmed bowls and plates should be avoided. Images of Dawn’s pit firing procedure can be viewed here
Workshop Schedule
Day 1
10-11am— Pots will be prepared with seaweed, copper wire and other organic materials. The pit will be prepared with wood, cow dung, pinecones and other materials.
11-12noon—Pots are loaded in the pit.
12-1pm— Lunch
1-3pm— Firing commences. Pit is stocked and eventually covered for slow simmer.
Day 2
10-10.30am— Pit firing methods techniques presentation and discussion. Includes handouts.
10.30-12noon— Pit is unloaded and pots cleaned
12-1pm— Lunch
1pm-2pm— Finished pots are polished and sealed.
2-3pm— Tour of Environmental installation

Well-Being Workshop
Tuesday November 22nd or Saturday November 26th

Workshop Schedule
10am-noon: Ceramics— Participants work in the ceramics studio learning a basic handbuilding technique to create and make a bowl, which is then
decorated and glazed.
Noon-1pm: Lunch— Bring your own picnic lunch.
1pm-2pm: Yoga— Participants gather at the Healing Circle for a one hour yoga and meditation session.
2pm-3pm: Free time—Participants are free to remain in the healing circle or explore the sculpture garden.
3pm: Finish
Cost: $120.00 per person
including materials and firing.

Children’s School Holidays Classes: Imaginary Animals
Wednesday 5th October 10-12noon OR 2-4pm
$30.00 including materials, glaze and firing.
Learn techniques to make imaginary animals, than paint them in fun, bright colours.
